Orchidaceae, commonly referred to as the Orchid family, is a morphologically diverse and widespread family of monocots in the order Asparagales. It is currently believed to be the second largest family of flowering plants (only the Asteraceae is larger), with between 21,950 and 26,049 currently accepted species, found in 880 genera. The number of orchid species equals more than twice the number of bird species, and about four times the number of mammal species. It also encompasses about 6–11% of all seed plants. The largest genera are Bulbophyllum (2,000 species), Epidendrum (1,500 species), Dendrobium (1,400 species) and Pleurothallis (1,000 species).
The family also includes Vanilla (the genus of the vanilla plant), Orchis (type genus) and many commonly cultivated plants such as Phalaenopsis and Cattleya. Moreover, since the introduction of tropical species in the 19th century, horticulturists have produced more than 100,000 hybrids and cultivars.
The complex mechanisms which orchids evolve to achieve cross-pollination were investigated by Charles Darwin and described in his 1862 book Fertilisation of Orchids.
This was part of a "themed" display that they had at the restaurant The Rock in Renton. There was SOOOO much to look at there! I was completely overwhelmed with all the decorations they had, it was all based off of Rock genres any where from sayings to album covers. Even the menu was inspired by titles of rock music and such. It is a really interesting place. To top it all off, their food was great too!!

The weather on Saturday was absolutely beautiful! The sunshine was out and the temperature was not as cold as it has been the last month or two and it was a good time to get outside and get some fresh air. Claire and I attempted to play some basketball but, obviously, she was quite small to make the basket :) But she had a great time anyways!!

Here is my baby girl. She was distracted by the t.v because Beethoven was on and I asked her to smile and she covered her mouth (cause she's a stinker) and I caught the picture just as she was moving her hands away :) She has so much personality it's amazing :)

My hunny took me out for sushi today (well, yesterday) and it was delicious! It was definitely "happy food." I haven't been to an actual sushi place before so it was an absolute treat! Anyways, in the dining part of the restaurant there were these interesting little room dividers, almost like the beaded ones that used to be EVERYWHERE. So I snapped it before we left :)

These were taken at the Coho restaurant in Issaquah. Went there on Sunday for dinner with some family and it was great! I had never been there before and I'm surprised that I haven't because the food was wonderful! Great food, great people, great things to look at.. What more could you ask for??
This is Matt. Sitting here listening to Rusty rock the H&H in Issaquah. I know what you may be thinking... But, no, he is not as scary as he looks :)

I absolutely LOVE shoes! No matter what type of shoe they are, I love them all. If my closet (and bank account) would allow it, I would fill it with shoes. There would be sneakers, heels, boots, slippers, flip flops.. you name it. But, for a girl on a budget, I shop with the need instead of the want :)
Jewelry!! Claire is always fascinated with my jewerly. Especially the ones the sparkle or "jingle" when they move. They are shiny and most of the time, nice to look at, so it's no wonder that children are drawn to them.. She was the inspiration for this random picture of my earring.. I have to admit, it is pretty to look at ;)

Hot Wheels!! I have not met one child that does not like Hot Wheels! They have been around forever and they are still just as much fun. My daughter Claire, is very methodical. She has a specific spot for each and every one of her toys. On Tuesday morning, 01/11/2011, she had these lined up on my dresser in front of the TV while she was watching her movie. I actually think that it's very fascinating. To watch her maneuver her toys so that she is content with them, blows me away. Who knew?? :)

You may not be able to tell what this is... So, I will tell you :) It's a picture of my nail polish that I have cropped and zoomed in on. I thought that it was a pretty neat picture. Did I just say neat? Anyways, yes, a neat picture. I'm pretty sure that you would have thought so too, but at the same time, would have struggled to figure out what it was. Mystery is sometimes a good thing, but I don't want to chance it ;)
(picture for Monday, 1/10/2011)

Well, I seemed to struggle with creativity on Sunday. For the life of me, I could not find anything that made me happy in the photography sense. Maybe it was because I was relaxed and enjoying the chance to NOT have to think about things in the way that I normally do and just let things flow. So.... there was this, sitting in front of me, and I took a picture of it. Ha ha, it may not be the greatest and it may not be very appealing, but in making this valiant effort to take a picture for every day of the year AND write about it, this is what I came up with :) Love it or hate it.. here it is :)

Who says that playdoh is only fun for children??!! I bought Claire some playdoh for Christmas, her first experience and she loves it! I'm having a great time with it too. I made this little playdoh lollipop before Claire mushed all the colors together, It's now a big jumble of multi-colored playdoh :)
New Years Eve/ New Years.. My co-worker Kim is on the right and her friend (name forgotten) on the right. It was a really good night!
Hello! I have some catching up to do on posting, but I've decided to take at least ONE picture a day and post it for the entire year of 2011. I've started the picture process and now I am starting the blogging process... How exciting! I have never had a problem with picking up my camera and capturing things that catch my eye, but I am going to make a conscious effort to make sure I take one every single day that is "post worthy." It'll keep me in focus as to what I love and also show my friends what I have been up to. Hopefully its a joyful experience and not a chore. I guess we'll see how it goes!
